Androgyny 02:05
there's a woman in me, who's achin' to be, a little less she and a lot more of he. i must have a chance to lead in this dance, and sometimes at home, honey, I'll wear the pants. androgyny, it's happening to me. it's just one more thing that i'll use to be free. androgyny, a new way to be. a new style important for me. loving men is so fine, loving women, divine. the choice it is mine how to make my life shine. i sing, women, be strong, we've held back for too long. men, listen to this, can you hear my sweet song? androgyny, it's happening to me. it's just one more thing that i'll use to be free. androgyny, it's happening to me. it's just one more thing that i'll use to be free. androgyny, a new way to be. a new style important for me.

honey, you called on the phone late last night to tell me your love had grown cold. i had nothin' to say, so i'll wait for the day when you're lonesome, your broken, you're old. livin' hard is just an inch from dyin' and sippin' brandy's just a way of cryin'. i'm broke and i'm blue, so alone without you, but i ain't givin' up yet on tryin'. showed up for work bright and early next day to find that my job's on the shelf. so i shuffled home, to my room all alone, just my brandy, my paints and my self. livin' hard is just an inch from dyin' and sippin' brandy's just a way of cryin'. i'm broke and i'm blue, so alone without you, but i ain't givin' up yet on tryin'. so, i'm painting a picture that's colors of blue. i'm painting a picture that's finally true. it's small, maybe meek, but the truth it does speak. it's a picture of me without you. livin' hard is just an inch from dyin', and sippin' brandy's just a way of cryin'. i'm broke and i'm blue, so alone without you, but i ain't givin' up yet on tryin'. oh, i'm broke and i'm blue, so alone without you, but i ain't givin' up yet on tryin'.

i think i love that lady over there, the one with the platinum hair. her figure is fine, her clothes so divine, and i'm wild about her satin underwear. they think that we do it for them. they think that we dress up for men. but it's her sweet affection that gives me direction. to me, she's more than a friend. the love of a lady's so warm, a familiar and comfortable form. as a friend she is great, as a lover, first rate, and with her there's no need to perform. i think i love that lady over there, the one with the platinum hair. her figure is fine, her clothes so divine, and i'm wild about her satin underwear. with the lady, my life is so sweet. with the lady, no need to compete. there's no need for roles, there's a merging of souls. with this lady, my being's complete. i think i love that lady over there, the one with the platinum hair. her figure is fine, her clothes so divine, and i'm wild about her satin underwear.

rented car, painted woman, borrowed time, the heartaches almost made me lose my mind. when i left my happy home, for that lonesome motel room, in a rented car, with a painted woman, on borrowed time. rented cars take you to places that you don't want to go. painted woman are the kind you never really get to know. borrowed time is the hard part, the interest is too high, rented car, painted woman, borrowed time. rented car, painted woman, borrowed time, the heartaches nearly made me lose my mind. when i left my happy home, for that lonesome motel room, in a rented car, with a painted woman, on borrowed time. (humming with recitation) "honey, it all started out as a routine business trip. you packed my underwear and socks and drove me to the airport and kissed me goodbye and said you'd be lonesome, and i said not to worry, that i'd be home in just a few days, and now here i am writing you from god knows where. i rented a car and checked into the motel and went over some papers for the next day. ('cause, you see) the company was counting on me to cinch the big deal. we met by chance when i took a break. i saw her reflection in the cigarette machine, and one drink led to another, and now here i am ashamed to come home. kiss our son and daughter goodnight for me, and when they get old enough to understand, tell them their daddy was a good man, all except this one time.”

Strong Arms 02:41
i wake up each morning and lie in my bed counting the leaves on the plants overhead. recounting the joys of last night's tender love, but he's gone and that's all i think of. i have his strong arms to hold me, his love to enfold me, but it's not all inspiring you see. i need more than his hand, i need more than a man. i need me, need to see who i am. there are times in our lives when the path seems so clear. and times in our lives when it's clouded by fear. and as often as not, we forget what we've got, while trying to please someone dear. i have his strong arms to hold me, his love to enfold me, but it's not all inspiring you see. i need more than his hand, i need more than a man. i need me, me to see who i am. so, why are we women so anxious to give? so often through lovers do we choose to live. his ships all come in, mine are left high and dry, while time passes like sand through a sieve. i have his strong arms to hold me, his love to enfold me, but it's not all inspiring you see. i need more than his hand, i need more than a man. i need me, need to see who i am.

a postcard is all i received from you after you left me alone and so blue. goodbye was the message, grand canyon the view. oh lord, please help me, what am i gonna do. there's a grand canyon in my heart. it keeps erroding me further apart. oh, please, fill it in, let love come again, and let me learn how to make a new start. this canyon is lonely, it's wide and it's deep, but made up of mountains, so tall and so steep. guess i'll learn how to feel like those mountains instead, i'll take the canyon from my heart, get him out of my head. there's a grand canyon in my heart. it keeps erroding me further apart. oh, please, fill it in, let love come again, and let me learn how to make a new start.

Clear Light 05:07
there's a clear light waiting for you. and here's all you really gotta do. if you wanna see yourself in the clear light, you gotta be there. romance isn't where its at. love will only leave you flat. dreams and schemes and imagery can all be your reality. 'cause you can shine, sister, shine. it's your time, sister, time. if you wanna see yourself in the clear light, you gotta be there. actualize your wildest dreams. you can really touch moonbeams. any light you're headed for is waiting for you out your door. 'cause you can shine, sister, shine. it's your time, sister, time. if you wanna see yourself in the clear light, you gotta be there. i'm talkin' now about your soul. i'm talkin' now 'bout 'bein whole. express yourself, expose it all, don't ever be afraid to fall. 'cause you can shine, sister, shine. it's your time, sister, time. if you wanna see yourself in the clear light, you gotta be there.

i can see the fine-line wrinkles that are crevassing your skin. and to your jet black hair, the silver streaks come creepin' in. your belly is protruding, your teeth have started to rot. you need the love of a younger lady, but money's all you got. so, you need the love of a younger lady tonight. you need some lovin' to make life okay. and i need a man to use me tonight, 'cause i like livin my life this way. you know that i'm a lady, and i know a thing or two. you know that i'm for hire, and i'll do what i can do. i'll try to give you back what your old age has stripped away. just put the money to my bosom, i'll meet ya in the hay. so, you need the love of a younger lady tonight. you need some lovin' to make life okay. and i need a man to abuse me tonight, 'cause i like makin' big bucks this way. please don't say you love me, i don't care for that at all. and please don't say you need me 'cause i'm only here to ball. and please don't play the game, and say that i'm the greatest lay, just put the money to my bosom, then please just go away. so, you need the love of a younger lady tonight. you need some lovin' to make life okay. and i need a man to amuse me tonight, 'cause i like livin' my life this way. so, you need the love of a younger lady tonight. you need some lovin' to make life okay. and i need a man to use me tonight, 'cause i like makin' big bucks this way.
